When I moved to the Netherlands 12 years ago the question I got asked frequently was “what do I miss about American?” The easy answer is Mexican food! Thankfully Amsterdam now has a proper Tex-Mex option for me and you alike! The Salsa Shop is located just of Rembrandt square near the Amstel river. Open late you can pop in a grab an very filling burrito. Although not cheap it’s also not too far off Amsterdam prices and if you play your cards right you can get the basic burrito for around 7-9 euro. It’s massive and will certainly hit the spot. I do not recommend adding guacamole to your burrito, it’s already filling enough and it just adds extra mess and costs to your final bill.
They don’t really take cash and are a credit card friendly environment. In a real pinch they may accept exact change. They have the one location currently but are also looking to expand. I expect in the next year to see a few more salsa shops open up in town.
UPDATE: Since November they’ve now opened a SECOND salsa shop – these guys are doing something right! The second location is in the up-and-coming trendy area called De Pijp. Very near the Albert Cuyp Market and actually located in the same building- but just around the corner from the entrance- you’d find the Heineken Experience. Address: Ferdinand Bolstraat no. 1
