Kantjil & De Tijger – Indonesian Food

When asked what one should eat in Amsterdam Indonesian food is as typically Dutch as anything deep-fried and breaded. Indonesia was a colony for the Dutch until after the second world war

when they finally got their independence. As a consequence we have a large Indonesian population in The Netherlands and thankfully so, since they bring some very tasty food with them.

Rijstafel is what people will commonly say you should try and you can read my previous post about that here. However, if you’d like just to order a few dishes then I recommend Kantijl and De Tijger which is very centrally located on Spui. Although you can get spicy Indonesian food it’s not only heat so you can get a wide variety of meat and veggie dishes alike.

Enjoy!
