Brouwerij De Molen – in Bodegraven

De Molen Brouwerij is perhaps my favorite brewery in The Netherlands. It’s outside Amsterdam (near to Utrecht) in a town called Bodegraven. Could be a nice little day trip to journey to this small town and take in a bit of country-side bliss.

The brewery offers tastings on Saturdays, usually in Dutch but if non-Dutch people are there then they’ll offer it up in English as well. On some Tuesdays does a dinner/beer specials.

It’s more then just a brewery, they have a restaurant with fantastic eats and Peter Paul, head chef, is passionate about his offerings. I stopped by for dinner recently and dragged my gluten free boyfriend along and was not expecting any special treatment but was surprised when the head chef came out to have a quick chat about the needs of my partner. Really a step above and beyond.

The food is locally sourced with dishes served up with infusion of various beers. I had the Duck Confit, Delicious!

It’s nice to leave big cities and get into smaller towns where people treat each other with that extra little something special.

If you can’t get out to the Brewery itself then you can be sure to get some of the options at Arendsnest in town. The two owners often work together.
